PAWHA's volunteer shiatsu/acu therapists brought important training
to the jungles of
Peru in November of 2001. View
Photos The goal was to bring training
along with
treatment into the rural river villages instructing mothers how to utilize this
simple but extremely effective therapy in keeping their children and family
healthy. In addition, the hope was to give village health promoters more
specific training in palpatory assessment and acu-point therapy instructing them
on the use of pressure, moxa and magnets for more acute illness.
Integrative Care in Action
Thanks to the staff of the Rainforest Health Project and dedicated
volunteers the expedition was a HUGE SUCCESS
! Not only did mothers and health promoters come
forward to learn but also the village men. In addition, along with
the western medical team from RHP, the Shaman offering treatments for
ailments of the spirit and instruction on the uses of the native plants,
PAWHA's volunteer therapists performed a vast array of necessary
clinical treatments based in Asian medicinal concepts. This
project was truly integrative care in action.
