What is the Pan American Whole Health Alliance? What do you mean by complementary healthcare? Who is involved with the organization? Does PAWHA have any political or religious affiliations? Are donations to fund PAWHA's community projects tax-deductible? What is the Pan American Whole Health Alliance? PAWHA is a vision, an idea, a philosophy of self-reliance and self-sufficiency through education and self-care practice. It is people coming together to bring complementary healthcare training to needy areas within all the Americas. It is sharing knowledge and resources to make a healthier world. There are gross inequities of available allopathic (western) medical healthcare throughout the Americas. Many rural areas are without adequate safe drinking water and sanitation service. Many more without access to medicines or doctors. There are several humanitarian groups going into rural and remote areas bringing in medical care and western drugs. Although needed this can leave people more dependent on western medications that are often neither available or affordable to them. PAWHA's goal is to provide education on prevention of illness and also education in complementary healthcare skills. Through education of how to care for ailments without the use of pharmaceuticals, how to prevent illness and promote wellness, the people of the Americas can enjoy a better quality of life at lower or no cost. This makes sense. It is called self-sufficiency and self-power. It is not becoming further dependent on resources that are not affordable or accessible in many areas of the world. What do you mean by complementary healthcare? The word complementary refers to healthcare skills outside of the typical allopathic or western mode of care. Many people use the word "alternative" for these therapies but the word alternative suggests either one or the other, not both. Complementary means healthcare that complements and that can work along side western medicine. The aim is to realize whole health and to work together for it's attainment. People deserve the best care possible - not either one or the other. PAWHA's philosophy encompasses integrative healthcare - the practice and use of the best of all modalities. Specifically, PAWHA's community projects concentrate on training the peoples of the Americas in therapies that do not use drugs or needles or unavailable consumable supplies. In this way skills can be taught and utilized without the need of outside sources to "restock." In essence it is about self-sufficiency and self-care. Who is involved with the organization? PAWHA was founded by Patricia Gilmore, C.M.Ht., a Boston area holistic healthcare provider and international speaker on self-care skills and wellness issues. Gilmore saw the need for integrative healthcare both at home and also in other countries within the Pan American region. She began "grassroots" by educating groups on the use of no-med, no-needle, acu-therapies and western mind science during the mid 90's. Her working travels brought her to remote areas accompanying a western medical team to render acute care. She felt that although acute care was needed more so was a broader vision of health. This would mean bringing self-care training to lower income people outside of the allopathic medical care "loop." In this way people could care better for themselves without creating further dependencies on unavailable western medications. www.bebest.com
